musique en route
Minimal Avantgarde Folk
After almost 20 years of band history, about 500 concerts, thousands of kilometers and countless rest stop coupons, musique en route, with Ariel Rossi on guitar, Stefanie Hess on double bass, Tom Tafel on accordion and percussion and Ronny Spiegel on violin, is setting off for new adventures.
In recent years, the band has devoted itself primarily to the processing of traditional music from the "wild east". Now, finally, the fifth album Cadrage has been created, entirely by the band's own pen and in their own familiar style. 11 carefully composed and artfully arranged pieces fill the gaps of the new vinyl.
Previously unheard melodies occasionally quietly penetrate the ear, when Ronny Spiegel ponders life and death in silent sadness in 3/4 time or when Tom Tafel sets a homage to the insight into finiteness to music.
It's wild, rhythmic and surprising in the 11/8 or in the equally odd "dark tango", in which Ariel Rossi weaves the Argentinian roots of his origins with the Balkan flair of the band.
The new repertoire is folkloristic, the love for folk music has remained and yet musique en route playfully explores new stylistic levels from the areas of jazz, minimal or global music.
The pieces sound cinematic, vivid and rich in associations, inviting us to curiously travel through the world of the quartet. Whether in “Bergmusik”, from the Furka Pass to the Near East, from Lac Bleu to the Zurich Zoological Museum or in “Adia” from the Schams Valley to Australia – musique en route spans a wide range and yet remains unmistakably true to its sound.
